Leila is a young Syrian refugee who has fled to the United States and now lives with her mother in the basement of a local Islamic center. Upon learning that their visas have expired and they are in danger of deportation, Leila embarks on a quest to find the mythical world of “the Hidden,” a race of invisible beings from the folklore of her homeland. In the tradition of Pan’s Labyrinth and When a Monster Calls, this is a story that shows the power of the imagination to heal and triumph over adversity.
